A long shot is presented to show Katy Perry's character waking up in her bedroom surrounded by confetti, ribbons and reminders of the night before.
This is one of the few long shots used in the video and this acts as an establishing shot for the video. This shot also sets a scene for the video as well as showing what her character is wearing for part of the video.
A variety of shots show the band performing within the music video, they're mainly mid shots and close ups. Most pop videos will show a band performing, meaning it's also an important feature. Furthermore, Within these shots it shows a number of people dancing, what they're wearing and where they are. These are all important factors in creating a music video.
As the video progresses the audience will notice a narrative emerging. These are used in most pop videos and it's a way of not only attracting an audience but also to include various features within the video, such as locations, clothing, props, editing techniques, effects and lip syncing. All of which are important factors to have in a pop video.
This is when the narrative begins as her character goes to the door of the party.
As she get inside the party, she sees people dancing and enjoying themselves, she immediately goes up stairs to change and join the party.
The audience can now see she's changed and is now joining the party.
This animation shows the use of of a cut away as well as montage editing. This can be common in pop videos as there's usually a narrative within the video and by using montage editing, you can add in cut aways to better explain the story line.
