Q2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary texts?
During the construction of my main product and ancillary tasks, I thought about themes that could run throughout all of them and I tried to link them by including similar themes and ideas.
I did this in the CD cover and advert by having the artist featured on each. I also changed the contrast on both the CD cover and advert to make them stand out more, a feature that's recognisable on each.
I was also originally going to have a theme of brightly coloured paint throughout. This was an idea that originally featured on both the CD cover and advert but only stayed on the advert.
I was able to link the CD cover and video as well by doing the same thing of running similar themes through them. This was done through the theme of photography as it's featured in both the video and the CD cover.
Also, originally I was going to include the same girl in the video and incorporate her into my CD cover. However, I felt that it was more important to have the band members featured on the CD cover.

I linked my advert and video together by again featuring the same artist on the advert that was in my video, making the audience know that they're linked. I also linked the paint on the artists hands to reflect the memories/flashbacks/cutaways in the video and give the impression that they're fun and 'colourful' memories.
Q1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In our music video we used a number of conventions typical to our genre of Indie Rock and other music videos in general. These included band shots, lip syncing, editing on and off the beat as appropriate, the artist image and a variety of shots used in music videos.
Band shots:
These two shots show a band in each video and reinforcing my point that band shots are a typical convention of a music video.
Lip syncing
Clothing
These images of not only the artist in my video but also The Maccabees and The strokes show that the clothing choices are appropriate for my video.
Variety of shots
These are some of the shots I have used in my video.

Conventions
We have also followed a number of conventions in our advert, such as the artists image, links to our music video, ratings from various magazines and a release date. These are all typical features you woudl expect to find on an advert for an artist.
We have also challenged conventions in the production of our advert. For example, the paint on the artists hands goes against a typical advert from an artist in this genre as the adverts are usually neat and tidy, where as ours is messy. This is also conveyed from the slanted titles and fonts used.
We have also tried to follow conventions in our CD cover in correspondence with other CD covers. For example, The Strokes have included their band and album name on the fron of the CD cover. They have also included track titles and a barcode on the back.

We have challenged another convention in the production of our CD cover. As opposed to the artist looking smart and presentable, he's covered in paint. This is similar to what we did with our advert. This does however follow the theme of fun, 'colourful' memories.
